Historically metal lunch boxes where the only and obvious choice. Robust, easy-to-clean and perfect for kids and adults. Many were made from repurposed cookie tins and even tobacco tins (perpetually smoked sandwiches?).
Sadly, the wave of molded plastics hit us with cheap lunchboxes in numerous colors and styles. The metal lunchbox did hold on until the 1980s, but with super cheap plastic it was hard to compete.
Now, however we are aware of the consequences of all that plastic and are happy to support products that are fully recyclable and easy to recycle too like stainless steel.
So, let's get on to the benefits of these latest stainless bento boxes below.
Those plastic ones are just bound to break, but not breakdown in the environment. We have already used enough plastic to circle the earth four times so perhaps we can give that a rest.
Gaia Guy decided to use stainless steel as these should last you a lifetime. The clips are all stainless steel too and there is an extra recyclable silicon seal included too.
These long lasting steel food containers (tare weights included so you can fill them up and checkout fast) should help you enjoy the goal of working toward a zero-waste lifestyle.
A quick google search can bring up countless articles about plastic food containers leaching weird chemicals that could cause unknown damage to our health. Looking at your BPA and your chemical brother alternatives which are proving as bad or worse than you.
It just makes sense to pay a bit more now to avoid exposing your kids or yourself to the chemicals in plastic products that come near your food.
In these days of COVID we want to be sure we can keep things super clean. Choosing highly polished and nonporous stainless steel makes these stainless bento boxes easy to clean and even dishwasher-safe. Remove the silicone seal and clean that separately too to ensure no bacteria can buildup.
Yes, these will cost more than plastic lunch boxes. However, as these become part of your daily routine for years to come you’ll save money in the long-run. No need to replace the plastic ones which inevitably break in a year or so.
Reusable & Recyclable
Stainless steel is 100% recyclable. Right now we can’t say that about plastic at all. Especially the flimsy plastic sandwich bags from ziploc or others. Together we can do something about plastic pollution.
We think that we’ve put together a good deal price-wise and have included an organic cotton lunch bag and made an effort to also go plastic-free in packaging. Thank you for supporting sustainable and recyclable goods.
