There are at least 5 reasons why you need a copper tongue scraper. One of the biggest reasons for many is to reduce bad breath. Another reason, but lesser known is that tongue scraping can unblock your taste buds so food tastes better. This could mean you will eat less, because you are more satiated by flavorful food!
There is a number of good reasons why ancient Ayurvedic texts spoke of this practice. Specifically chapter 5 of the Charaka Samhita states:
The tongue scraper should be curved without a sharp edge and be made of gold, silver, copper, tin or brass. The impurities, deposited at the root of the tongue obstruct inhalation, cause halitosis. The tongue, therefore, should be scraped regularly.
